The second pilot action of the "Thought for Food” program concerns the training of a young farmer from Arcadia, Giorgo Siambi. Completing his studies in Larissa and Thessaloniki, Giorgos returned to Kerastari a small mountainous village (altitude 760 m.) between Tripoli and Megalopoli, where he decided to get involved with the primary sector. Later on he entered the EU co-funded program for young farmers with 80 ewes aiming to increase their number in the following two years. He is already working on Improvement plans and modernization of his farm. He is planning to build new housing systems for his animals, a feed mill and a milking parlour. He is lacking information on the new technologies and adequate husbandry methods. Giorgos is a new farmer that requires support in establishing new and modern methods for managing his livestock. As he is planning to build new accommodation structures a thorough training on housing and animal welfare practices is essential. Visits at other model farm could contribute to this result Training and on-site consultancy will include good sheep and goat management practices, modern breeding techniques, sheep and goat nutrition, animal housing, health and animal welfare. The project aims to prepare the beneficiary to implement sound practices on his farm, help him organize the form and structure of his farm and reassure that his enterprise would be viable into the future, from the economic, social and environmental perspectives.
