Perrotis College participates in the Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs initiative of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology (EIT), an independent E.U. body founded in 2008 with the aim to create innovation. EIT Food is a pan-European consortium that focuses on entrepreneurship and innovation in the food sector in order to create a sustainable food industry, with the participation of industry, start-ups, research centers and universities from various European countries. It works closely with consumers to develop new knowledge and technologies that will provide a healthier and more sustainable lifestyle for European citizens.
Consortiums of six European countries participate in the Food RIS Consumer Engagement Labs. Perrotis College was chosen to represent Greece as an academic institution and has undertaken the task of creating and coordinating a cluster, involving participants such as the food company E.G. PASSIAS S.A. and the start-up company Exoha.
The project uses knowledge from anthropology, social sciences, psychology, consumer behavior and innovation management in conjunction with food industry experiences. In the first phase of the project, a series of workshops will be held for consumers over the age of 65. The workshops will be offered online and coordinated by the professors of Perrotis College. Participating instructors will take part in specialized training and gain access to the methodology and tools developed by the University of Warsaw for this purpose. The project will also involve students from the undergraduate and graduate programs of Perrotis College.
In the second phase, innovative foods will be proposed in the category of processed meat for the specific age group, while the third phase involves the production of an innovative product and its presentation to the market.
